LOCATION
AND DESCRIPTION:
Coral Bay Resort is found at
Yai Noi Bay, north Chaweng Beach in the northeastern part
of Koh Samui. Opposite us is Koh Matlang, a little island
with an adjacent reef, accessible by a brief long-tail boat
ride or by wading across from the resort during low tide. |
The resort is ideal for discerning
travelers in search of an eco-friendly alternative to the
crowded, concrete establishments becoming prevalent in Koh
Samui. Here, the environment minimizes the stress of city
distractions. The pace is slow and relaxed, enhanced by
the natural splendor of a tropical, jungly setting. With
only 53 bungalows spread around 10 acres amidst what is
arguably one of the most beautiful, lush and informal gardens
on the island, the atmosphere is completely serene and privacy
is assured. Established in 1982, Coral Bay Resort works
hard to maintain a balance between progress and nature by
providing all the amenities without compromising the island's
native charm. All our quaint, native style, thatched-roofed,
wood and stone bungalows preserve the original atmosphere
of Samui as it was. Surrounded by more than 300 luxuriant
coconut trees and fragrant, flowering shrubs, these rustic
bungalows provide a high standard of comfort. Nevertheless,
being in paradise does not necessarily mean isolation as
shops and the nightlife area are only minutes away, while
water sports are available around the corner from the property's
quiet bay. The coral reef in the bay offers good snorkeling,
fishing and shelling. The abundant flora on the resort provides
a sanctuary for many species of birds, butterflies and squirrels.

THE
ENVIRONMENT:
Conscious of the
environment, and in our efforts as a "green" resort to preserve it, waste water is recycled
and used to water our extensive gardens and new plants in
our nursery. The waste water is pre-treated through three
stages of septic tanks before going through a "constructed
wetlands," which is a natural treatment system using gravel,
water hyacinths, cattails and fish. Here, nature does the
rest of the work as bacteria, the roots of the aquatic plants,
algae and fish purify the water further and convert harmful
nitrates to beneficial ones. This system has not only enabled
us to support our passion for gardening on an island where
water is a precious commodity, but has helped to contribute,
even in a small way, to Koh Samui's preservation.
ACCESS:
The resort is approximately 10 minutes from the island's airport
operated by Bangkok Airways which has more than 10 direct
70-minute flights daily from Bangkok. Thai Airways also has
daily service from Bangkok to Surat Thani on the mainland,
approximately 30 kilometers from Koh Samui. Flying Thai Airways
will involve a one hour ride from the airport to the ferry
jetty and another 90 minute ferry trip to reach Koh Samui.
The resort is about 45 minutes away from the ferry jetty.
Surat Thani may also be reached by air-conditioned coach or
train, both with daily services from Bangkok. From Surat Thani,
and Nakorn Sri Thammarat, the island is accessible by ferry
or express boat.
CLIMATE:
Koh Samui has a tropical, humid climate with temperature ranges
from a low of about 22oC/72oF to a high of 35oC/95oF. Cooler
months are from December-March. Hotter months are April-September.
Although rain is possible on any day of the year, only a few
days during the monsoon, October and November, get very wet.
PEAK SEASON MONTHS:
January, February, March, April, July, August, December

WHO WE ARE
Coral Bay Resort is designed for travelers in search of
a relaxing and eco-friendly holiday experience. The peaceful
natural environment of Coral Bay Resort minimizes the stress
of today·s urban lifestyle and offers a welcome alternative
to the crowded concrete establishments that, unfortunately,
are becoming all too prevalent on Koh Samui. Our 53 bungalows
are set amid 10 acres of lush tropical gardens, ensuring
an atmosphere of serenity and privacy. Surrounded by luxuriant
coconut palms and flowering shrubs, the charming Samui-style
dwellings (built of wood and stone with traditional thatched
roofs) offer high standards of comfort.
OUR PHILOSOPHY
Since opening in 1982, we·ve worked hard to maintain
the delicate balance between preserving the natural charm
of Koh Samui while providing the amenities for our discerning
guests. The abundant tropical flora creates a sanctuary
for many species of birds, butterflies and squirrels. Ever
conscious of the environment, we use recycled waste water
to maintain the extensive gardens and new plants in our
nursery. The waste water is pretreated through three stages
of septic tanks before filtering through a natural treatment
system of gravel, water hyacinths, cattails and fish. This
·constructed wetlands· system has enabled
us to indulge our passion for gardening on an island where
fresh water is a precious commodity.
