Na Muang Waterfalls
Actually
a set of two waterfalls, they are the most scenic on the island
and are located 10 km south of Nathon near Ban Thurian.
Na Muang 1 is 18 meters high and can be reached by
vehicle as it is at the end of the road.
Na Muang 2 is about 80 meters High and can only
be reached by a 30-minute walk, it is obviously
less frequently visited even though it is arguably the prettiest
falls on the island and worth the walk. Na Muang Safari based
at the cross roads can take you up on the back of an elephant
if you prefer.
Hin
Lad Waterfalls
Just south of Nathon and well signposted, the falls are a 2-kilometer
walk from the pool at the road head. It
is quite a tough trek so make sure you have decent footwear.
The falls are really nice as long as there is enough water
(in the dry season it is probably not worth the trek) and there
is a pool that you can swim in.
Butterfly
Garden
One
of the most frequently visited attractions on Samui, the
2800 sq-meter Butterfly Garden is home to dozens of species
of Southern Ghailand's famous brilliantly colored lepidopteans.
Set in the hillside and with a spectacular view of
the sea, the Butterfly Garden is the road from the Central
Samui Village.

Hin Ta & Hin Yai

The
famous grandfather and grandmother rocks are strange natural formations
fashioned by the elements into massive sculptures of male and
female genitals, which make great photographs. A local story tells
of an old couple whose ship was wrecked in the bay and their bodies
were washed ashore to create the rocks. They can be found just
south of Lamai and are well signposted from the 4169 ring-road.

signs. The farm is open from 8.30am to 5pm daily and there are
shows at 2 pm and 4.30pm.
Temples & Shrines

which visitors are welcome to visit and temple enthusiasts may
find of interest. Please remember to dress politely (no beachwear
or revealing clothing) and to behave with respect in temple grounds.
Entrance is free but it is customary to make a small donation.
Wat
Phra Yai (Big Buddha Temple)
This-12
meter golden Buddha is a must for every visitor to Samui. Sitting
magnificently upon the small island, Koh Fan, the huge statue
is the island's most prominent landmark and can often be seen
from the air before the incoming air incoming aircraft land. There
are a number of restaurants and souvenir stands around the temple
and usually plenty of visitors, it is located in the northeast
of the island on route 4171 close to the airport.
Coral
Buddha
Formerly
one of Samui's main attractions, this small, dilapidated statue
is now only visited by Buddhist devotees. Although it is in a
state of disrepair, the Coral Buddha is till revered and is a
place of worship for the monks from nearby Wat Sumret. The only
direction sign is a small tatty board parallel to the road which
is easy to miss when driving past. It is on the 4169 ring-road
approximately 800 meters west of Hua Thanon
Buddha's
Footprint
There
are actually four foot-prints here, superimposed one on another.
Each one is basically engraved. They are house in a modest shrine
150 steps up a steep hill. Which also offers a great view across
the plains to the mountains opposite, and to the sea over the
treetops. Buddha's Footprint is not signposted but can be found
by going up a concrete slope on the left, two kilometers West
of the turnoff for the Butterfly Garden on the 4170 road.
Wat
Sila Ngu
Said
to contain a relic of the Lord Buddha, the golden chedi facing
the temple's entrance is a popular place of worship and the odd
visiting TV star has used the grounds for a performance. It is
located on the 4169 ring-road. One kilometer south of Hin-Ta Hin-Yai
on the beach side of the road.
The Laem Sor Chedi
In
the grounds of Wat Laem Sor, this chedi (pagoda) sits at the rocky
water's edge. Covered in countless small yellow tiles, it appears
golden when viewed from a short distance. It's at the far South
of the island off the 4170 road between Ban Tale and Ban pang
Ka. Follow the track with a sign that reads "Wailili Bungalows",
and you will reach it eventually.
Wat Khunaram
The
body of samui's most famous mummified monk, Loung Pordaeng, is
on display here in a specially constructed building. When he died
more than 20 years ago, he was sitting in a meditation position.
He is still in that same position and his body shows few signs
of any major decay. Wat Khunaram is on the 4169 ring road between
the Na Muang waterfalls and Hua Thanon.
Secret Buddha Garden
The secret Buddha garden is a wonderfully tranquil garden full
of religious statues-mainly Hindu and Buddhist-created by the
late Nai Nim Tongsuk, a retired durian farmer whose grave lies
behind the main cluster of statues. It took him a reported fifteen
years to single handedly complete the garden, which now seems
to be a popular attraction (and there are signs that it is being
spruced up for visitors so one can only hope that it isn't spoiled).
Try to visit early in the morning or late in the afternoon when
it is quiet and you can experience the extraordinary beauty of
this special place. It is located above Na Muang, take the next
road after (south of) the road to Na Muang Waterfalls and follow
the signs, or better still go with a guide.
Ancient
House
A
house made of teakwood without any nails at Ban Thale is the oldest
house on the island. It was built approximately 150 years ago,
was constructed from teak and made constructed from teak and made
without nails and is in surprisingly good condition.
